"Alexander Zubkov is fantastic and the oldest man ever to win the four-man bobsleigh. He nearly retired in 2011 after a row with the sport's federation. I believe Russian president Vladimir Putin stepped in and told him to stay for four more years, which he did. He carried the flag at the opening ceremony and has won two Olympic gold medals. Vladimir Putin is here today and that must have added to the pressure on Zubkov."

  4. Russia top medal tablepublished at 11:50 Greenwich Mean Time 23 February 2014

With only one medal event still to come - the men's ice hockey final starting at 12:00 GMT - Russia cement their place at the top of the final table, with their 13th gold of Sochi 2014 and 33rd medal overall. Norway are second with 11 golds, and 26 in total.

"GB will be devastated they missed out on a medal here. They recovered well from a poor start in the first run. It is a miracle John Jackson even made it here, given the injuries he has had this season."

USA 1 are not as quick as the Russians but their time of 55.33 is still good enough to snatch first place by 0.03 seconds and guarantee at least a bronze. The Russian crew react by throwing their helmets on the ground in disgust.
