I can't make out if the crowd are chanting "Paul, Paul" or "Bo, Bo" but common sense tells me it's probably the latter.

American Bo Nickal is highly rated over here and the UFC are expecting big things from him after stoppage wins in his first three fights in the promotion.

Billionaire Elon Musk is also in attendance with American president-elect Donald Trump tonight.

Remember when there was talk of Musk and fellow billionaire Mark Zuckerberg meeting in an mma match at the Colosseum in Rome?

What a strange sport this can be at times!

There was a heightened security presence at Madison Square Garden tonight in anticipation of the arrival of American president-elect, Donald Trump.

There was about an hour delay for the media to get into the arena as the secret service did bag checks, while sniffer dogs patrolled the outside of the arena.

Huge cheers of "USA" greeted Trump as he walked out to sit octagon-side alongside tech billionaire Elon Musk and UFC president Dana White.

Trump is an MMA fan and close friend of White, who was invited on stage earlier this month as part of the president-elect's election victory speech.

    Nickal v Craig

Round one in the bag between Bo Nickal and Paul Craig.

It was spent entirely on the feet - both are clearly wary of what the other can do on the ground,

Craig used his kicks to good effect and may have just edged the round.

He was enjoying himself on the walk to the octagon, dancing to Hanson, and he has just told his coaches between round that's he's "having fun" in there.

Always a character. Never change Paul!

  7. No-look hookpublished at 04:33 Greenwich Mean Time 17 November 2024

Mauricio Ruffy almost had a no-look finish in his fight with James Llontop earlier tonight.

If he had, we could have done some spot-on football comparisons. But he didn't, so we won't.

    Still, incredible snap.

  8. Jones seen sparring in empty arenapublished at 04:32 Greenwich Mean Time 17 November 2024

There was footage played at Madison Square Garden earlier this evening of Jon Jones sparring in the octagon today in front of thousands of empty seats.

Jones could be seen shadowboxing with a training partner, before practicing his jiu-jitsu on the canvas.

It is unusual for fighters to practice in the octagon on the day of a fight, but Jones is as unpredictable as any fighter in UFC history.

Will we see Jones' last-minute preparations pay off later tonight?

There has been no love lost between Jon Jones and Stipe Miocic during fight week, with the former taking comments made by the latter to heart.

Jones refused to shake Miocic's hand at Thursday's news conference but accepted the gesture when they met for a final face-off at the weigh-ins on Friday.

    Defending champion Jones weighed 237.6lb (16st 13lb), 11lb lighter than 42-year-old Miocic.

Introduced by UFC commentator Joe Rogan as the "GOAT", Jones said: "Tomorrow is an awesome opportunity to display this gift god has given me. I'm super excited, I feel great. And still."

Miocic left briskly after saying: "It's about time finally. And new."

I'll keep you across how things play out between Paul Craig and Bo Nickal.

I can tell you Paul has just made his walk looking super confident and shaking his hips to Hanson's 'MMMBop'.

Shall we dive into some Jon Jones v Stipe Miocic build-up?

    Nickal v Craig

Scotland's Paul Craig moved down to middleweight in July 2023 after falling just short in his attempt to seal a title shot at light-heavyweight.

After winning on his debut in the new division, it is back-to-back defeats and Craig now faces a tough test in the shape of American Bo Nickal.

They are up next on the bill and it looks like an interesting match-up.

Craig is a submission specialist and might fare well against the wrestler but defeat will leave him well down the pecking order with the rankings well out of sight.

However, victory opens up huge opportunities and likely a spot on the recently announced London Fight Night card in March 2025.

"I want these ‘Oh my God’ moments. I want these fights that get me excited," Craig told BBC Sport.

"I want to walk out in places like Madison Square Garden. Right now it's all about getting Bo Nickal, handling my business, and then looking forward to potentially fighting in London."

Earlier on the card, Welsh welterweight Oban Elliott delivered the first highlight-reel moment of the night as he knocked out American Bassil Hafez with a huge overhand right in the third round.

Elliott, 26, celebrated by channeling former WWE superstars Ric Flair and Hulk Hogan, strutting in the centre of the octagon before cupping his ear to each side of Madison Square Garden

The victory is Elliott's third since making his UFC debut last year, extending his overall record to 11 wins and two defeats.

Ready for one final instalment of combat sports on this action-packed weekend?

After boxing in Texas and Saudi Arabia, it's time for some mixed martial arts in New York.

It's apt that the iconic Madison Square Garden plays host to UFC 309 with two promotional legends set to go at it in the main event.

Heavyweight champion Jon Jones, widely regarded as the greatest mixed martial artist of all time (try telling Dana White otherwise), takes on arguably the UFC's greatest ever heavyweight Stipe Miocic.

Who will prevail? Are we set for an all-time classic? Will one or both take off the gloves and retire once it's all said and done tonight?
