Well, that was a mixed night for Britons Dakota Ditcheva and Brendan Loughnane as the 2024 PFL season drew to a conclusion.

Ditcheva, still at the very start of her career, has laid down a statement to all the other flyweights out there. Another stunning performance to beat Taila Santos and become the first-ever British woman to win an MMA world title.

You can watch highlights from Ditcheva's victory on the BBC Sport website, app and on our social media platforms from tomorrow morning.

It wasn't to be for Loughnane, though. The 34-year-old just didn't have the tools to compete with Russian Timur Khizriev in their featherweight title contest.

It is worth noting that Timur Khizriev is still only 29.

A hugely talented fighter with plenty of his best years still in the tank.

PFL featherweight champion Timur Khizriev speaking to DAZN about Brendan Loughnane: "He is a former champion. A tough fighter. Yes he took a lot of damage, I was honestly surprised. We have to give love to him, hats off. He is a tough dude.

"That was a very tough and a long road. My family took a lot from me in this fight. I was very nervous. Now I have to give back when I go back home."

Khizriev beats Loughnane by unanimous decision

It just wasn't to be for Brendan Loughnane. He really seemed to be struggling with mobility and a possible knee injury. It will be interesting to hear what he has to say in the hours and days after this loss.

Is the last we will see of Loughnane in the PFL?

Khizriev beats Loughnane by unanimous decision

That is the only fight to have gone the distance on tonight's championship main card.

It was pretty comprehensive from Timur Khizriev. This guy has so much ability.

Khizriev moves to 18-0. If only he could add a few more finishes to that record.

Khizriev beats Loughnane by unanimous decision

    No surprise here.

All three judges score it in favour of Timur Khizriev - one had it 50-45 in favour of the Russian with the other two scoring it 49-46.

Fair play to Brendan, the gas tank never let him down. But his back leg definitely did. I'd like to know what's gone on there.

    Loughnane v Khizriev

We await the scorecards but I can only see this going one way - a unanimous decision win for Khizriev.

That was a really impressive performance from the Russian, displaying a full locker of mixed martial arts.

    Loughnane's face tells the story.

  11. Round fivepublished at 21:43 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2024

    Loughnane v Khizriev

Khizriev takes Loughnane's back for a moment while they are standing but he's quickly shrugged off.

10-second clapper sounds. Are we set for a big finish?

No. Loughnane looks drained and Khizriev knows he's already done enough.

Time to start throwing combinations if I'm Loughnane now. Now use throwing jabs now.

  13. Round fivepublished at 21:41 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2024

    Loughnane v Khizriev

Khizriev has had enough of fighting on the feet and shoots for a takedown. A tired Loughnane is powerless to stop it but he shows heart to fight his way back up.

    One minute to go.

  14. Round fivepublished at 21:40 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2024

    Loughnane v Khizriev

Khizriev is so cute at disguising his shots. This time he sneaks through with an uppercut.

The pair stand and trade in the middle but it's Khizriev who wins the exchange with a bruising knee up the middle. It connects with Loughnane's chin but the Mancunian shakes it off and waves on his opponent.

  15. Round fivepublished at 21:38 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2024

    Loughnane v Khizriev

Loughnane is as game as anything. He turns to the crowd and screams "let's go" as the final round gets going.

Loughnane throws a calf kick but Khizriev comes forward a lands with the jab.

Little bit more success for Brendan in that round, but I would still score it to Khizriev. He's got a clean sweep so far.

  17. Round fourpublished at 21:37 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2024

    Loughnane v Khizriev

Despite a brief spell on the floor in the opening 30 seconds, this round has primarily played out on the feet.

Khizriev still looks to have done enough to take it. That looks like four rounds in the bag and, as Dan Hardy says, Loughnane needs to throw the kitchen sink at his opponent during the final five minutes.

If this gets to the fifth round and I'm Brendan Loughnane, I am throwing it all on the table.

  19. Round fourpublished at 21:35 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2024

    Loughnane v Khizriev

Khizriev feints with the hands and executes a beautiful spinning kick.

Loughnane throws out a jab but there is little threat behind it. Khizriev is the one controlling the pace of this fight.

  20. Round fourpublished at 21:32 Greenwich Mean Time 29 November 2024

    Loughnane v Khizriev

Into the championship rounds we go.

Khizriev wastes no time in shooting for a takedown and he secures it with little resistance.

Loughnane refuses to stay on his back and manages to get to a knee, albeit with a little be of illegal fence grabbing. He circles away and this returns to the feet.
