Michael Rutter wins record eighth Macau Grand Prix

Isle of Man TT star Michael Rutter made history on Sunday with a record-breaking eighth win at the Macau Grand Prix in the Far East.

The 40-year-old from England claimed a 4.9-second victory over his former British Superbike team-mate Martin Jessop, with Simon Andrews third.

It was Andrews' first race since crashing in the Superbike race at the Isle of Man TT in June.

"The crowd were fantastic. I hope the winning run continues," Rutter said.

"It's very important to get a good start here."

Manx rider Conor Cummins finished sixth, with 19-time TT winner John McGuinness having to settle for seventh after overshooting at the Lisboa section of the Guia street circuit.

The 46th running of the event had been delayed by 24 hours due to rain and was reduced by five laps to a 10-lap race.

The meeting was overshadowed by the death of Portuguese rider Luis Carreira in a practice crash on Thursday.
