Weather has disrupted Friday's scheduled qualifying session

Rain has led to the abandonment of the final scheduled qualifying session for the 2023 Manx Grand Prix.

While the session got underway shortly after 13:00 BST, it was red flagged a short time later.

Organisers said the rest of the day's action had been cancelled due to the "deteriorating weather" and to minimise the disruption to the public.

The decision means a contingency session available between 18:00 and 21:00 is not set to be used.

Friday's schedule had also included the first of five races due to take place during the 2023 event.

The three-lap Lightweight race had been due to start at 14:40 on the Isle of Man's 37.75-mile (60km) Mountain Course.

Qualifying for the event had already faced significant disruption due to bad weather and red flag incidents.

A revised schedule has been issued for Saturday as a result of the cancellation.

Roads around the Mountain Course will shut at 11:00, followed by an untimed warm-up lap for competitors.

That is due to be followed by a sidecar test lap to allow TT competitors to try out new tyres on the course following the announcement that Avon Tyres will close its manufacturing plant at the end of 2023.

The first race of the day will be a shortened Classic Senior MGP race, which will take place over three laps rather than four from 12:45.

The four-lap Junior MGP race will then follow at 14:45 before the Made at the Manx centenary parade lap, highlighting 17 of the most successful racers who started out at the event, sets off at 16:45.

Following that, the rescheduled Sure Lightweight Race is set to be the final race of the day, starting at 18:00.
