Irwin secures fifth as Ryde wins Donington opener

Glenn Irwin finished fifth in the first British Superbike race of the weekend at Donington Park which was won by Kyle Ryde.
Irwin had won all three races at the previous round of the series at Oulton Park to move to the top of the championship standings and then went on to claim another hat-trick at the North West 200 international road races.
Defending BSB champion Tommy Bridewell was second for Honda Racing in the Donington opener, with Leon Haslam third and Danny Kent fourth.
Irwin still heads the standings, on 85 points, with Kent back on 76.
Early leader Ryan Vickers crashed out on lap two and then the race was halted after the riders had completed 14 laps when Christian Iddon was a faller.
That incident brought out the red flags but the result stood because the field had completed more than two thirds of the original scheduled 20-lap race distance.
Andrew Irwin came home in 14th place.
The Superbike sprint race and second feature race will take place on Sunday.
