Todd clinches third victory at 2025 Southern 100

Davey Todd secured his third victory of the 2025 meeting in the second Senior Race

Davey Todd made it two wins from two in the Senior class at the Southern 100 Road Races after a closely-fought contest with Dean Harrison.

The blistering pace set by both riders saw the race lap record broken twice during seven circuits of the 4.25-mile (6.8km) Billown Course in the south of the Isle of Man.

While it was Harrison that set the fastest lap with a speed of 116.855mph, Todd managed to hold onto the lead, crossing the finish line just 0.2 seconds ahead.

It was the third win at the 2025 event for the 29-year-old after he secured victory in the first Senior and Supersport races held on Tuesday evening.

Starting at number one on the road, Todd held on to the lead on his BMW machine on the first lap of Wednesday's race despite a strong charge by Harrison's Honda.

The lead remained under half a second as the race went on, with Michael Dunlop a further 4.69 secs behind in third, also on BMW machinery.

Todd set a new race lap record with a speed of 116.783mph on lap four, only for Harrison to better it on the next circuit with a speed just shy of the outright lap record for the class.

But it was Yorkshire's Todd who held on to take victory from the Laxey resident, with Dunlop finishing a comfortable third.

Todd told Manx Radio Motorsport: "I knew Dean would be there, he's so strong round here and he still has the outright lap record.

"But I feel settled, I feel comfortable... I've got a little bit more in me if I need it."

Reflecting on the contest with Todd, Harrison said: "I nearly had a bit of a go into the last corner but I was a bit far back.

"I feel pretty good. His bike's really strong speed-wise, so we've just got to sit in the slipstream, but through the corners I've not got a problem staying with him, and on the breaks, so we'll have another go later on."

Dunlop said trouble with his gearbox meant this year had been "a bit of a nightmare".

"Those boys just ran apace and I got caught up on lap one," he added.

"But I don't think I'm a million miles off, I just need to get with them and get a tow because I just don't have that last bit."

Browne took victory in the Supersport 600cc race ahead of Todd and Dunlop

Mike Browne achieved his first win of the meeting in a fiercely contested Supersport 600cc race, which saw the lead change several times over seven laps of the circuit.

Todd kept his nose out in front on the fist lap, with Browne a close second followed by Rob Hodson, who was being hunted down by Dunlop.

It was all change by the end of lap two with Browne taking the lead from Todd and Dunlop closing the gap by two seconds and slotting into third.

But it was Browne's Yamaha at the front of the pack at the start of the last lap and he took the chequered flag with a margin of 0.159 seconds from Todd on his Yamaha.

Browne said the win was "a good start" to his day's racing on the Isle of Man.

"We used a tyre from yesterday and it was starting to go off, but it was a great race," he added. "Nice to get a different name on the top step."

Newcomer Craig Szczypek led the Solo Founders Race from start to finish

In the day's opening Supersport 600cc B race Lancashire newcomer John Marsh followed up his third-place finish in Wednesday's first race with his maiden victory on the course. Paul Cranston took second, with Dennis Booth in third.

Meanwhile, the invitation only Solo Founders Race, for riders who missed out on securing a place in the main Senior and Supersport events, saw Buckinghamshire's Craig Szczypek storm to victory.

He finished 33 secs ahead of fellow newcomer Adam Williams, with Craig Kennelly securing a hard-fought third.

In the final race of the day's first session, Andy Smart took the win in the six-lap Lightweight Consolation Race ahead of David Glossop and Russel Brook.
