A competitor has been excluded from the 2024 Manx Grand Prix after a drugs test, the event’s organisers have said.

A statement issued by ACU Events Ltd said Alex Sinclair had “returned a non-negative test result for a recreational drug” in a random test carried out as part of the meeting’s drug and alcohol screening protocols.

The 35-year-old from Pontygwaith in Wales had been “excluded from the event with immediate effect”, it said.

A regular competitor since 2012, Sinclair had been due to compete in the Junior, Classic Junior and Classic Senior races.

The statement by organisers said the matter will be passed to the Auto-Cycle Union (ACU), the national governing body for motorcycle sport in Great Britain, excluding Northern Ireland.

“Sanctions for competitors caught doping can be a ban from ACU competitions for a minimum of two years,” it said.

“The Manx Grand Prix Races and ACU share a strict zero-tolerance policy for the presence of drugs and alcohol for officials and competitors during an event period.”
