Loughborough finished bottom of the Superleague table last season

Loughborough Lightning beat Celtic Dragons to claim their first Superleague victory for 20 months.

Lightning lost all 14 matches last season and could only win once during the 2013 campaign.

Now under the leadership of ex-England player Karen Atkinson, Loughborough ended their unwanted record on Monday with a 58-44 victory over Dragons.

In other round three results, there were wins for Surrey Storm, Manchester Thunder and Yorkshire Jets.

Pamela Cookey's Surrey inflicted a 56-42 defeat on her former club Team Bath, while champions Thunder beat Hertfordshire Mavericks 49-42 to move top of the standings.

The Jets claimed their second victory from three games against Team Northumbria, winning 59-45.

Monday's results mean Loughborough move off the bottom of the table and Atkinson said:, external "We're unbelievably excited to come away with the win.

"It's fantastic for the girls, and for everyone at Lightning, having not had a win last season.

"It was a really tough game. The Dragons pushed us all the way but we kept calm under pressure. I'm extremely proud."
