Down have been relegated from Division 2A of the National Hurling League after the play-off defeat to Wicklow in Trim on Sunday.

Jonathan O'Neill's penalty helped the Leinster team to a 1-10 to 0-8 advantage at the break.

The Mourne men conceded a second goal when Eamonn Kearns netted right minutes into the second half.

Paul Braniff was the star performer for Down, firing over 14 of their 17 points in the game.
