James McCartan believes his Down's side's win over Fermanagh will not have Ulster semi-final opponents Monaghan quaking in their boots.

Down had five points to spare as they won 2-10 to 1-08 at Brewster Park but manager McCartan wants more.

Fermanagh manager Peter Canavan has no complaints as they lose to Down in the Championship.

"We were caught sleeping for their goal and we were not happy about the way we allowed Fermanagh to stay in the game.

"I am delighted with the win but I do not think we would have scared anybody with that performance."

Fermanagh boss Peter Canavan, taking charge of his first Championship match, felt the early dismissal of Daryl Keenan had been a huge blow.

"It is hard enough playing a team of Down's quality with 15 men," he said.

"I did not see the incident but I am bitterly disappointed about that aspect of the game.

"Daryl is a clean, honest footballer and he says he was sent-off in the wrong.

"I asked the players to go out and win the second half and they managed to do that.

"They came back and gave everything they had, and that is all you can ask for.

"We missed a few chances and gave possession away and got punished for that.

"I would have liked to have had a go at them with 15 players but the best team won. On the day, we can have no complaints."
