Ballinderry see off Slaughtneil to retain Derry crown

Defending champions Ballinderry resisted a determined comeback by Slaughtneil to win Sunday's Derry club football final 1-10 to 0-10.

The crucial goal came in the 16th minute when a good pass by Enda Muldoon picked out Connie Devlin who finished past Slaughtneil keeper Aaron McMullan.

Ballinderry led 1-6 to 0-5 at the break but in the second half they had half-back Raymond Wilson sent-off.

Slaughtneil closed to within a couple of points but Ballinderry held on.

The champions now face Tyrone champions Errigal Ciaran, maanged by Ballinderry man Ronan McGuckin, in the Ulster quarter-finals on Sunday, 4 November.

There are two other last eight clashes down for decision on the same day with Fermanagh representatives Tempo taking on current provincial holders St Gall's at Brewster Park and Down title winners Kilcoo facing Monaghan club Ballybay.

The other quarter-final will be staged a week later at the Athletic Grounds with Armagh, Ulster and All-Ireland champions Crossmaglen awaiting the winners of the 28 October Donegal final between Glenties and St Eunan's.

Glenties beat Four Masters 0-9 to 0-6 in their county semi-final on Sunday.
