McKenna Cup: Fermanagh beat understrength Donegal

Fermanagh beat an experimental Donegal side 2-15 to 2-7 in Wednesday's McKenna Cup Section C match at Brewster Park.

None of the Donegal team which won the All-Ireland final against Mayo in September were involved in the game.

Darryl Keenan's fifth-minute goal was the first score of the match, helping Peter Canavan's Erne men establish an interval advantage of 1-6 to 0-4.

Sub Tomás Corrigan scored Fermanagh's second goal while Adrian Hanlon and Dermot Molloy netted for Donegal.

Paul Ward, Marty O'Brien, John Woods, James Sherry and substitute Shaun Quigley were among Fermanagh's other point scorers.

Gary McFadden caught the eye in the Donegal team while Stephen Griffin and Shane McGowan also registered scores.

Thick fog had put the Enniskillen fixture in some doubt but the referee gave the go-ahead after an inspection an hour before throw-in.

Donegal fielded an entire shadow 15 as most of the victorious senior squad had only arrived back on Tuesday from a team holiday in Dubai.

Fermanagh were without injured goalkeeper Ronan Gallagher who had sustained a dislocated shoulder in training.

But the home side fielded a much more recognisable line-up with Martin McGrath, Ryan McCluskey and Shane McCabe involved.
