All-Ireland Football Qualifier: Galway 1-11 Armagh 0-9

Armagh crashed out of the All-Ireland qualifiers as they lost by five points to Galway in round three at Salthill.

Galway were three points to the good before Armagh opened their account and then a 23rd minute Danny Cummins goal put the Tribesmen 1-4 to 0-3 in front.

The hosts led 1-6 to 0-5 at half-time and Galway continued to control the game in sweltering conditions, Michael Meehan chipping in with vital points.

Galway will face Cork in the fourth round at Croke Park next Saturday.

Armagh entered the game as favourites, having comfortably seen off the challenges of Wicklow and Leitrim in the first two rounds.

Paul Grimley kept faith with the same starting XV while Galway made four changes after a narrow victory over Waterford.

The home side got off to the better start, but points from Tony Kernan, Caolan Rafferty and Ciaran McKeever kept the Orchard county in touch.

Cummins punched the ball into the net to emphasise Galway's superiority and his side led by four points at the break, despite points from Aaron Kernan with a free and Stefan Campbell, who had replaced Rafferty.

Campbell contributed two further points at the start of the second half but Armagh were outfought and Galway were deserved winners.

Jamie Clarke finished the game without contributing a score for the Ulster side.
