Saffrons shock Wexford in All-Ireland U21 hurling semi-final

Antrim produced a huge upset by beating Wexford 2-15 to 1-16 in Saturday's All-Ireland U21 hurling semi-final.

Stephen McAfee netted for the Ulster side after three minutes at Thurles and Ciaran Clarke added a second goal to leave it 2-5 to 0-9 at half-time.

Antrim surged into an eight-point lead but Wexford fought back and Conor McDonald scored a late goal.

The Saffrons, who will meet Clare in the decider, are the first Ulster team to make it to the U21 final.

Wexford keeper Brian Murphy should have kept out McAfee's early shot but the goal gave Antrim momentum and Clarke hit the bottom corner for the second goal after 13 minutes.

Antrim were six points clear but Wexford reduced the margin to two by half-time.

Superb long range scoring from the Saffrons saw them move clear in the second half and Wexford's comeback was not enough to deny Kevin Ryan's side a stunning victory.

Clarke added five points to his goal while McAfee finished with 1-4.

Clare defeated Galway 1-16 to 0-7 in the other semi-final and they will take on Antrim in the 14 September final at Semple Stadium.
