Alastair Seeley title hopes hit in Assen feature race

Alastair Seeley's hopes of winning the British Supersport title have suffered a blow after he finished sixth in Sunday's feature race at Assen.

The Carrickfergus rider won Saturday's sprint race to reduce the gap on leader Billy McConnell to 40 points.

Seeley is now 55 points behind after McConnell won on Sunday, with just two rounds remaining in the series.

Fellow Carrick man Glenn Irwin, who crashed out on the final lap of the feature race, lies fourth.

Irwin started the weekend with fourth place in the sprint and he is 32 points adrift of Seeley.

Seeley fought back to take sixth after being forced off the track when the race was re-started following an early red-flag incident.

"I got shunted off the track in the re-start and went grass tracking," said Seeley.

"I came back on in about 12th place and just worked my way back up through the field.

"It's a shame because the lap times I was running were around the same as the front guys, so without the incident we could have been with the front five.

"We have clawed some points back here at Assen so we must remain positive."

Graeme Gowland and Luke Mossey completed the podium places in the Netherlands on Sunday.

Meanwhile, Castlerock's Marty Nutt was second in both Ducati Cup races and is third in the championship standings.
