Portadown have made a good start to the season under Ronnie McFall

Ronnie McFall has been voted the Irish League's manager of the month for September following his Portadown team's fine start to the season.

The Ports are top of the Premiership table after an unbeaten month which included a 4-2 victory over mid-Ulster rivals Glenavon

It is McFall's 21st monthly award, just a month short of the 20th anniversary of his first win.

"The league this year will be a football writer's dream," said McFall.

"We are top but there are six or seven teams capable of winning it, although four or five wins in a row would put a team in a great position.

"We have made a good start with our three big signings from Linfield bringing a winning mentality and we also have Keith O'Hara and Ross Redmond back and they have made a real difference."
