Football League: Defeats for Armagh and Fermanagh
- Published
Armagh and Fermanagh suffered defeats on Sunday although the Ulster sides had already secured their promotion to Division Two.
The Orchard men were beaten 1-19 to 1-8 by Sligo in Markievicz Park with Andrew Murnin netting for Armagh.
It was a closer affair at Cusack Park in Ennis with Sean Quigley scoring both goals for Fermanagh in their 1-14 to 2-9 defeat by Clare.
Armagh and the Ernemen will meet in the Division Three final on 25 April.
Orchard boss Kieran McGeeney rung the changes for the Sligo encounter and his new-look side were soon behind with Adrian Marren doing most of the damage for the Connacht men.
Marren scored seven points in the first half as Sligo went in 0-12 to 0-4 ahead at half-time.
Armagh went further behind on the restart when David Kelly netted before Andrew Murnin scored a goal in a rare highlight for the visitors.
That left a scoreline of 1-15 to 1-6 but there was no way back for Armagh as Sligo ran out comfortable winners.
Quigley put Fermanagh in front with an early goal at Cusack Park but Clare hit three points without reply to lead 0-8 to 1-3 at the break.
Pat Burke's goal five minutes into the second half saw Clare go six clear and the gap increased to nine before a late Fermanagh rally which included a penalty from Quigley.
