Dundrod 150: Bruce Anstey wins as Guy Martin crashes out

Bruce Anstey won Thursday's Dundrod 150 Superbike race after leader Guy Martin crashed out at Ireland's Corner on the last of the scheduled six laps.

Martin's injuries were described as "not serious" by the organisers following the high-speed incident.

The result was taken from the last lap which all the competitors completed, with the Tyco BMW rider excluded.

That left New Zealander Anstey the winner by 4.77 seconds from Isle of Man competitor Conor Cummins.

The Kiwi's fastest lap was 133.49mph, just shy of his five-year-old absolute lap record for the 7.4-mile Dundrod circuit, which stands at 133.977.

Lincolnshire's Peter Hickman completed the podium places, with Dan Kneen, Keith Amor and William Dunlop making up the top six.

Ian Hutchinson, Lee Johnston and Michael Dunlop all retired at the pits.

Speaking about Martin's accident, Anstey commented: "Guy seemed to be struggling for grip and lost the back end and had a light high side."

Hickman praised the organising Dundrod Club for the new safety measures they have introduced at the corner where Martin crashed.

"It's as safe as you can possibly make a road race," said the British Superbike rider.

The remainder of the scheduled five-race Dundrod 150 programme was scrubbed as the light began to fade around the course.

The opening event of the programme, the National race was halted because of a red-flag incident, the fifth of the day at that stage.

None of the riders involved are understood to have suffered serious injuries.
