Honda Racing rider Andrew Irwin secured his maiden BSB race win at Thruxton in August

Andrew Irwin finished fifth in the first British Superbike race of the weekend at Donington Park on Sunday.

The Carrickfergus rider went on to finish seventh in race two as series leader Scott Redding won both events.

Irwin lies eighth in the overall series standings on 181 points, five points behind Honda Racing team-mate Xavi Fores in the race for the Riders' Cup.

That title is awarded to the top finisher outside the top six who take part in the end-of-season Showdown.

PBM Be Wiser Ducati rider Redding saw off the challenge of fellow podium finishers Tommy Bridewell and Josh Brookes in race one, with the second and third place finishers reversed in race two.

Andrew's brother Graeme was 12th in the Superstock 1000cc class.

In the Junior Superstock 600cc, Korie McGreevy's chances of taking the title suffered a major setback when he failed to finish Sunday's race.

Eunan McGlinchey took the chequered flag in third position to occupy fourth spot in the championship on 137 points, four behind McGreevy who is second.

Jack Kennedy retained his British Supersport title by taking victory in the 12-lap sprint race on Saturday.

Yamaha-mounted Kennedy enjoyed a three-second advantage over Brad Jones to make it a remarkable 17 wins this season and seal the series success with three races to go.

The Dubliner made it 18 wins with a further success in the feature race on Sunday.

Magheramorne rider Scott Swann was runner-up in the Motostar class.
