Career highlights

The cyclist was part of the world record-breaking British team pursuit quartet who won Olympic gold in Beijing.

He is also a five-time world champion: four times in the team pursuit and once in the omnium. He is targeting a place in both events at the 2012 Olympics.

Career lowlights

He was unable to defend his world title in the omnium in 2011 due to illness. Clancy had ridden in the qualifying round of the team pursuit in the Netherlands but the virus caused him to miss the final and withdraw from the rest of the championships.

The Barnsley-born cyclist was appointed an MBE in the 2009 New Year's Honours List.
