Career background

Storey is aiming to become the first Briton to compete at both the Olympics and Paralympics.

She made her name as a swimmer, winning two gold medals as a 14-year-old at the 1992 Paralympics. Altogether, she won five Paralympic titles before switching to cycling (initially because she kept suffering ear infections) in 2005 - she then won two more golds at the 2008 Paralympics.

Did you know?

Her winning individual pursuit time in the 2008 Paralympics would have qualified her in seventh place in the women's Olympic event.

Personal

The Mancunian was born without a left hand (her arm ends at the heel of her palm).

Her husband Barney is a sighted rider for blind or partially sighted athletes - he won two golds in that role at the 2008 Paralympics.
