Newtownards cyclist Martyn Irvine finished in 13th position after the six disciplines of the omnium cycling event at the London 2012 Games.

Irvine began with a ninth place in the flying lap race and then came sixth in the points race with 47 lap points.

A 15th place finish in the elimination race saw him drop down the field ahead of Sunday's three remaining events.

Irvine was 14th in the 4km individual pursuit, ninth in the scratch race and 11th in the time trial in 1:04.558.

He ended on 64 points, with Lasse Hansen taking the gold on 27 points, followed by Bryan Coquard on 29 and Edward Clancy on 30.

Irvine faced a huge task to qualify for the Olympics but achieved his goal by breaking into the top eight in the European rankings.
