The torch is now being passed one with almost each step as we wait to see who is going to get the honour of lighting the cauldron.
There is a group of at least 15 now.

The setting is stunning.
Bar the Parisian lampposts it is in darkness. Parts of the Louvre lit up and the pyramid as well.
Then there is a spotlight on the athletes, all dressed in white as they move towards their next relay teammates.
Amelie Mauresmo now hands it over to former NBA star Tony Parker.
Four-time NBA champion Parker is French-American and he jogs with Mauresmo towards the Louvre where they meet a few more people.
Marie-Amélie Le Fur, president of the French Paralympic Committee, is takes up the next stage as they head on past the Arc de Triomphe.
It's quite surreal to see all of these iconic Paris landmarks without tourists.

What are they going to do in Los Angeles in four years time because this has just launched the bar?
It isn't going to be Rafael Nadal to light the cauldron.
The torch has been handed to France's Amelie Mauresmo as the speed boat reaches its final destination.
Mauresmo won tennis silver at Athens 2004.
Rafael Nadal has re-emerged on a speed boat with fellow tennis icon Serena Williams, American sprinter Carl Lewis and Romanian gymnast Nadia Comaneci.
Nadal will be playing singles and doubles in the tennis at the Paris Olympics.
Williams, Lewis and Comaneci are just along for the ride here.

One of the things I love about this kind of occasion is when the athletes all get their phone out and they're filming things because you're reminded that these potentially global superstars in the audience become fans.
I love that change and duality.

Nice to see a bit of dad dancing there!

The Trocadéro is a sea of smartphones as everyone scrambles to get a shot of this light show on the Eiffel Tower.
Supernature by Cerrone blares out.
We've had an eclectic mix of music tonight and it's time to dig out those flares as we are treated to some disco.
The light show is still going on too.

It is a spectacular light show which continues. Again these beams of light dance their way up the Eiffel Towel.
Spectators below in pitch black now, eyes all just gazing up towards the Eiffel Tower. Now it's glittering.
As Rafael Nadal disappears we are treated to an incredible light show around the Eiffel Tower.
It looks great but I'm not sure if it's quite at the level of Blackpool Tower during the Illuminations switch on...

Lee Allen: Not sure how an opening ceremony down the river will work but i'm assuming it will be another correct Simpsons prediction.
Sorry I missed this contribution earlier, Lee.
Looking at how this opening ceremony has unfolded, I'm not sure the all-seeing Simpsons writers had any chance of predicting it!
Zinedine Zidane has been handed the torch from the masked individual so I guess we will never find out who that was?
Just as Zidane looked to be the one to light the cauldron, he hands the torch to... Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal.
The King of Clay - a moniker he earned from his vast success at Paris' Roland Garros - has a beaming smile as he walks off stage and back towards the Eiffel Tower with the torch for this final leg of the tradition.

Here comes 1998 men's football World Cup winner Zinedine Zidane to take the Olympic torch.

Zinedine Zidane very coolly marches onto the damp stage at Trocadero.
Applauded all the way down this long, long stage in the shape of the Eiffel Tower.
Zinedine Zidane is back.
Considering we saw him somewhere underground in Paris at the start of this ceremony he has very white trainers.
Something doesn't quite add up here.

President Macron declares open the 33rd Olympic Games in a slightly rain-soaked but still very cheerful Paris.
And as president of the IOC Thomas Bach concludes his speech it's over to French president Emmanuel Macron to officially declare the Olympic Games as open.
Now we have Olympic Oaths.
The Athletes say: "In the name of all competitors, I promise that we shall take part in these Olympic Games, respecting and abiding by the rules which govern them, committing ourselves to a sport without doping and without drugs, in the true spirit of sportsmanship, for the glory of sport and the honor of our teams."
