World Rowing 2013: Alan Campbell in single sculls semis

Britain's Olympic bronze medallist Alan Campbell won his single sculls quarter-final in the the Rowing World Championships in Chungiu, South Korea.

Campbell, 30, gained an early lead and sat on it comfortably to the line.

New Zealand's Mahe Drysdale, who took single sculls gold at London 2012, failed to reach the semis.

Great Britain's women's eight won their quarter-final repechage as all 17 of GB's Olympic and International class boats reached the top 12.

A quarter-final top-three finish for lightweight single sculler Jamie Kirkwood and second place for Vicky Thornley in her open single scull repechage saw them safely through to the semi-finals.

Meanwhile, Ireland's Leonora Kennedy and Monika Dukarska were second in the double sculls repechage, also reaching the semi-finals - having just missed out on an automatic place when they finished fourth in their heat on Monday.

The women's eight took control at the halfway stage of their race and held off a strong challenge from the Netherlands.

"Today the enthusiasm and energy was there again, but we were also using our heads," said Beth Rodford from the women's eight, looking back on a comparison between the boat's performance in the heats and Wednesday's repechage.

GB Rowing team performance director Sir David Tanner said: "With all our boats through to the top 12 it has been a really solid team performance so far."
