Alan Campbell and Leonora Kennedy are through to the World Championships semi-finals in South Korea.

Coleraine rower Campbell won his single sculls quarter-final by over five seconds in 7:08.70.

There was a shock when Olympic champion Mahe Drysdale finished fourth in his quarter-final and failed to progress.

Enniskillen woman Kennedy and Monika Dukarska were second in the double sculls repechage on Wednesday morning in a time of 7:12.08.

The Ireland pair were over two seconds behind Ekaterina Potapova and Maria Krasilnikova of Russia.

Kennedy and Dukarska just missed out on an automatic semi-final place when they finished fourth in their heat on Monday.

However on Wednesday, the Irish duo took second place behind Ekaterina Potapova and Maria Krasilnikova of Russia in their repechage heat.

Kennedy explained:"Today's race wasn't our best. We had a good start but didn't quite find our rhythm.

"But we'll learn from it and hopefully bring some changes into the semi and on into whichever final we get into.

"The semi is going to be a massive test for us. It's the senior world championship debuts for both of us so we've not had a bad start."

Olympic bronze medallist Campbell cruised to a heat win on Sunday and was again a comfortable winner in the quarter-finals, with India's Sawarn Singh coming in second.

Coleraine brothers Richard and Peter Chambers eased to victory in their lightweight double sculls heat on Sunday.
