Hull KR have released second row Clint Newton and hooker Ben Fisher.

Newton, who still had a year left on his Rovers contract, played 97 times for Rovers and will return to the NRL to join Penrith Panthers.

The 30-year-old makes his final home appearance in Saturday's game against Castleford, which Rovers need to win to make the play-offs.

Scotland international Fisher, also 30, moved to Craven Park in 2006 but has not been offered a new deal.

Newton, who joined KR in 2008 and was named in the Super League Dream Team the following year, said: "It has been an honour and privilege to play for Rovers and live in the city of Hull.

"My decision to take up the opportunity to move back home comes with a heavy heart and it's not a decision that was made overnight.

"This decision is what's best for my future, my partner and my family and those reasons are the only reason for my departure, nothing else."

Fisher added: "I want to finish the season on a high in my last game at Craven Park and it's going to be an emotional week for me knowing that it's going to be the last time I'll play in front of the fans as a home player."
