Warrington's Richie Myler is set to miss the start of the Super League season after dislocating an elbow in a Boxing Day friendly win over Widnes.

The 21-year-old former Widnes and Salford half-back left the field in obvious pain 29 minutes into the game.

"He's been training exceptionally well and was keyed up for a big start to the season," Wolves coach Tony Smith said.

"But he may just have to delay that a little bit - it's a blow for him." Super League XVII begins on 3 February.

Myler, who is a member of England coach Steve McNamara's elite training squad, may also be forced to pull out of Warrington's pre-season trip to Australia.

The team are due to fly out on Saturday week for a three-week training camp, culminating in a match against South Sydney on 28 January.
