Leeds Rhinos have given a one-year contract to utility back Joe Vickery.

The 23-year-old, who spent last season with Gold Coast feeder side Tweed Heads, was two months into a three-month trial period with the 2012 Grand Final winners.

He scored two tries in the Boxing Day friendly win over Wakefield.

"I'm very happy to have got the contract because it puts my mind at ease and it was what I came here to get," he told BBC Radio Leeds.

"It was a massive gamble for me to come here on a trial but I felt like I needed a change.

"With the backline they already have it's going to be difficult to get in the team but if you don't have confidence then there's no point in trying."
