Hull KR coach Craig Sandercock is unsure whether centre Sean Gleeson will be fit for the start of the season.

The Wigan-born 25-year-old joined the Robins from Salford City Reds at the end of last season but has picked up a back injury in training.

Sandercock told BBC Radio Humberside: "He's making slow and steady progress and we're hopeful he'll be ready for round one.

"He'd been training the house down so it's disappointing."

Rovers open their 2013 campaign with a home match against Catalan Dragons on Saturday, 3 February and after a 10th-place finish in his first season coaching in Super League, Sandercock is confident the team can improve this year.

"I know the players and the environment much better now and that is worth its weight in gold," he added.

"I've changed a few little things that possibly caught me a little bit on the hop last season.

"We're not one of the richer clubs in the league, but all the players that we've brought to the club genuinely want to be here."
