Warrington need to find ruthless streak - Micky Higham

Warrington are "not far off" the teams above them in Super League but must rediscover their ruthless instincts, hooker Micky Higham has said.

The Wire lie third, three points behind Huddersfield and six behind Wigan.

"We know we've got it and it's just a matter of getting it back consistently. We have shown in games that we can do it," Higham told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"We're not far off the mark, but if you're not quite on the mark, that can be the difference this year."

Tony Smith's side, who won the Challenge Cup and reached their first ever Grand Final in 2012, have suffered five defeats in 16 league fixtures this season, the most recent coming at home against Hull FC on 17 May.

The Wire recovered from that loss to beat St Helens 48-22 in their Magic Weekend derby on Saturday, although 32-year-old Higham admitted there were still concerns emanating from their victory at the Etihad Stadium.

"We got back to our attacking best but we still conceded 22 points," added the England international.

"We started well but we had a bad period after half time and that's probably when we've been letting ourselves down in recent weeks. That's an area we can improve on - maybe looking at how to kick on and be a bit ruthless."

Warrington face two struggling sides, Salford City Reds and London Broncos, in their next two Super League matches before facing leaders Wigan on 24 June.
