Peacock: Hock sin-binning small price for Salford to pay

Leeds and ex-Great Britain prop Jamie Peacock believes it would be a mistake if Salford try to curb Gareth Hock's aggression on the field.

Red Devils prop Adrian Morley said forward Hock's "temperament" needs addressing after he was sin-binned in Saturday's win over London Broncos.

Peacock told BBC One's Super League Show: "He plays on the line, and sometimes goes over it.

"That fear-factor he has is part of what makes him an asset as well."

The 36-year-old former Great Britain captain added: "Some blokes are scared to tackle him - he runs that hard and has that intimidation about him. Sometimes you have to put up with him getting sin-binned."

Hock's career is littered with controversy, from being handed a five-game ban for grabbing a referee in 2008, to being suspended for testing positive for cocaine and most recently being removed from England's World Cup squad following a breach of discipline.

He scored on his Super League debut for Salford against Wakefield in the first round, having decided to stay in England after being expected to join NRL side Parramatta.

Morley said the 30-year-old's performance at The Hive summed Hock up, from being sent to the sin bin for clashing with James Cunningham at the scrum, only to return to set up Francis Meli for a try.

"He is not renowned for his patience and tolerance - that is Gazza sorting it out Gaz style," Morley said.

"It is something we are working on, his temperament. He has had a number of sin-binnings, but he is a very, very talented player."
