Sean Long has returned to the coaching staff at Salford Red Devils, 11 months after resigning as assistant coach.
The 37-year-old recently left London Broncos and will work alongside coach Brian Noble on a consultancy basis.
"As soon as I heard Sean was available, I wanted to give him this opportunity to work with the exciting team we have assembled here," said Noble.
Long spent around 18 months at Salford but left in April 2013, shortly after Phil Veivers was sacked as head coach.
He enjoyed a successful playing career in Super League with Wigan, Widnes, St Helens and Hull FC and also won 14 international caps for Great Britain.
Speaking to the club website,, external Noble continued: "Sean knows what it takes to be a success at the highest level.
"When you consider the mixture of high quality and experience we have pulled together at the club, I'm sure he will bring a further dimension to our team dynamics."
Salford, who signed Wigan winger Dom Manfredi on loan on Monday, have won two and lost two of their first four Super League matches in 2014.
