Jodie Broughton joined Huddersfield from Salford for the 2014 Super League season

A late Huddersfield onslaught saw off Hull FC and kept the Giants in touch with Super League's top four.

Hull led 18-14 at the break thanks to Jordan Houghton, Aaron Heremaia and Jamie Shaul tries, and extended that lead when Jordan Thompson crossed.

But on the hour Jodie Broughton and Brett Ferres scored to add to Jake Connor's brace and a David Faiumu try.

Gareth Ellis replied to Anthony Mullally and Jermaine McGillvary tries before Broughton sealed victory.

Paul Anderson's Huddersfield are now unbeaten in six Super League matches.

The final scoreline was not one that reflected fairly on a Black and Whites team that surrendered the game in the five minutes either side of the hour mark, when Broughton and Ferres put the hosts ahead for the first time in the game, and Mullally gave them an eight-point advantage.

At one point, Hull were 18-4 up as Rankin twice provided assists with pinpoint kicks, first for Houghton to pounce on a loose ball in the corner, and then for Shaul to chase and slide in.

After the Giants had dragged themselves to within a score, Thompson was the beneficiary of a breakaway try against the run of play to stretch Hull's lead again.

But the 2013 Man of Steel Danny Brough played in Broughton, and while the visitors were still regrouping, Shaul spilled the ball in the tackle and Ferres was the opportunist scorer.

Then a combination of Eorl Crabtree and Mullally bundled their way over the Hull line, with the latter making the grounding.

And it was all over when McGillvary burst down the wing to sneak in, before Brough threw a huge pass for Broughton to score on the hooter after Ellis had grabbed a consolation.

Huddersfield head coach Paul Anderson:

"I think when we saw their team sheet we thought we could win with just enough effort to get by, but you can't do that.

"A team with young players making their debuts can be dangerous because they've nothing to lose.

"We've spoken before about winning games on ability instead of collective effort. The performance was patchy to say the least. We did just enough. We won, but we need to be better than that."

Hull FC coach Lee Radford:

"A few mentally soft decisions cost us, but on the overall performance we look to be in better shape for next season.

"The gap between top and bottom isn't as big as it it used to be, whether because of the salary cap I don't know, but we're looking forward to Leeds in our last game."
