Saints have won no silverware since St Helens left Knowsley Road for Langtree Park in 2011

St Helens coach Nathan Brown wants to launch a new era at the club by securing the League Leaders' Shield against Warrington on Thursday.

Saints will end a six-year wait for silverware if they avoid defeat by the Wire at Langtree Park.

Their last trophy came when they won the 2008 Challenge Cup., external

"Hopefully it can kick on a period of success for this generation of players to win a number of trophies," Brown told BBC Radio Merseyside.

"It'd be a great reward for the players' hard work and superb for everyone, having waited so long to win something."

St Helens won the inaugural Super League in 1996, and were crowned champions three times in the next six seasons.

They won the Grand Final again in 2006, before losing the next four.

Meanwhile, Warrington squandered a 14-point lead against Wigan in last term's finale, extending their wait for a league title to 59 years.

They lost 38-8 to St Helens on the opening day of this campaign, before exacting revenge with a 41-24 success at Magic Weekend.

"Warrington and us are very even teams, and the games are usually tight," Brown continued.

"But both teams have such quality that if the other's off their game, you can be heavily beaten."
