A Shaun Kenny-Dowall try five minutes from time sealed a 14-12 New Zealand win over Samoa in the Four Nations.
The 2008 world champions trailed 8-6 down half-time after Tautau Moga and Daniel Vidot cancelled out Kieran Foran's converted effort.
Joey Leilua extended the lead just after the break, but Jason Nightingale went over to set up a tense finish.
Kenny-Dowall's late score left still Samoa seeking their first victory over any of the major rugby league nations.
The Kiwis' win all but seals their place in the tournament final, having defeated Australia 30-12 on 25 October.
