Aaron Murphy has scored four tries in eight games this season

Aaron Murphy scored two tries against Warrington to help Huddersfield move to third in the Super League table.

Jamie Ellis opened the scoring with the only try of the first half, with Danny Brough adding the extras and then a drop goal to make it 7-0 at the break.

Murphy grabbed his first try before the Wire responded through Gareth O'Brien and Kevin Penny to trail 13-10.

But a further Murphy effort and Jermaine McGillvary and Eorl Crabtree tries completed the win.

Victory at the Halliwell Jones Stadium lifted the Giants above the Wire and to within four points of leaders St Helens, whose perfect start to the season was ended by Hull KR on Friday.

Scrum-half Ellis got on the end of his own grubber kick to open the scoring under the posts on six minutes.

Warrington went close to a quick response but Ben Currie lost the ball after Ryan Atkins had been held up over the line.

Increasing pressure from Wolves amounted to nothing, with Ben Westwood and Atkins again threatening before Brough added to Huddersfield's lead with a drop goal just before the interval.

Captain Brough then helped create Huddersfield's second score, with his kick bouncing awkwardly for Warrington's Stefan Ratchford and Murphy pounced to race over for a converted try.

Chris Bridge put O'Brien through for Warrington's response and Ratchford's breakaway run and link-up play with Joel Monaghan finished with Penny going over in the corner to reduce the deficit to three points on 63 minutes.

Brough found Murphy ready to pounce for his second to put Huddersfield back in command and McGillvary intercepted Daryl Clark's pass to race 70 metres to touch down for their fourth try, before Crabtree added another score late on.

Warrington coach Tony Smith:

"Danny Brough gave a masterclass and kicked us to death. He showed a lot of composure and was the difference.

"We lacked patience in the first half and didn't build a game. We didn't do anything exceptionally well.

"We are going into a big week but should have Ben Harrison, Anthony England and Richie Myler back."

Huddersfield coach Paul Anderson:

"It's been a long time between drinks against Warrington and this was brilliantly done.

"Some of the things we did were top-drawer and some dumb.

"Aaron Murphy has great feet and did well and we all know how good Danny Brough is.

"We are starting to roll and that gives us confidence and we are in a good place going into Easter. We are not getting carried away but not many teams will come to Warrington this season and win."
