Iestyn Harris: Salford Red Devils head coach has 'top four' aims

Head coach Iestyn Harris says his ambition is to establish Salford Red Devils as a top-four Super League outfit, but it will take time.

The Red Devils have been bankrolled by Dr Marwan Koukash, who has afforded Harris the finances to sign players such as Kevin Locke and Weller Hauraki.

They finished the 2014 outside the top eight and missed out on the play-offs.

"We want to make them a top-four club, and I want to make them one," Harris told the BBC Super League Show.

Salford, under Harris, have discovered some form this season - winning four of the last six - and climbed as high as third before last weekend's round of fixtures where they were beaten by Leeds Rhinos.

"Progress will take a lot of time, but we're heading in the right direction," Harris added.

"For me there wasn't massive intent, it certainly had no malice." Iestyn Harris on Rangi Chase's tackle on Brett Ferres.

"The results over Easter show that now we are looking to get some consistency."

Harris' side will have to continue their push for a top-eight spot in the 2015 season without their talismanic half-back Rangi Chase.

Chase, 28, was banned for seven games following a tackle on Huddersfield's Brett Ferres - a decision that left Harris frustrated.

"For me there wasn't massive intent, it certainly had no malice," he said.

"Everyone had an opinion about it, seven games isn't ideal for us or Rangi but we take it on the chin and use our squad.

"We've got Theo Fages, who's an excellent young half-back, and he will relish the opportunity to play there regularly."
