Wakefield's winless Super League run was extended to 14 games by Leeds.
Liam Sutcliffe's hat-trick, doubles from Ash Handley and Brad Singleton and scores from Danny McGuire, Rob Burrow, Carl Ablett and Jimmy Keinhorst sealed the two points.
Wakefield, in front of incoming coach Brian Smith, replied through Tom Johnstone's brace, Pita Godinet, Danny Kirmond and Nick Scruton.
Victory takes Leeds a point clear at the top of the table.
Smith's presence seemed to have a galvanizing effect on Wakefield early on. They were fierce in defence and took the lead when Tim Smith's kick was gathered and finished off by Johnstone on the right.
Leeds looked shell-shocked but found a response soon after when temporary full-back Sutcliffe walked into a gap on Trinity's left edge after a flowing move to level.
McGuire's footwork took him over to turn the scores around and Burrow finished off a scything run by Kallum Watkins to put Leeds in control.
Godinet's try, created by a bulldozing run by Johnstone, gave the home side new hope but an Ablett score ensured a two-score lead at the break.
The visitors took the game up a gear after half-time and blew Wakefield away, with Handley, Sutcliffe, Keinhorst and Singleton all crossing.
Kirmond, Scruton and Johnstone all went in for Wildcats, who remain adrift at the bottom of Super League, to restore some pride as Leeds took their foot off the gas with the job complete.
New Wakefield coach Brian Smith:
"It was true to form for Wakefield in the last two or three months. It wasn't too much different to what was expected.
"There's a lot of work to be done but there's some things I can see that are easy to identify, not so hard to practice and most times are things you can get a pretty quick result from.
"It's still very difficult to get right in the game under pressure and fatigue and that's why footy, or rugby as I should learn to say again, is a tough game for tough people."
Leeds Rhinos coach Brian McDermott:
"I don't think we were great in the first 40 minutes - our game management at times was terrible and our kicking game at times wasn't great.
"Some of our decisions to pass almost look a bit disrespectful to the opposition. I thought we were a bit silly in the first half and it didn't need to look like that."
