St Helens winger Tommy Makinson is facing a spell on the sidelines after confirming he has undergone surgery on an ankle knock suffered on Friday.

The 23-year-old scored 20 points as his side beat Salford 32-12 but was injured in the final couple of minutes.

The club are yet to confirm how long Makinson could be out for.

He tweeted: "Thanks everyone for the messages! Had surgery yesterday to my damaged ankle! All looking ok! Will keep updated."
