State of Origin: Queensland 52-6 New South Wales

Queensland gave head coach Mal Meninga a 55th birthday to remember with a 52-6 hammering of New South Wales to seal the 2015 State of Origin series.

Meninga's side regained the shield with success in the deciding third game, breaking the record margin of victory in an Origin fixture by six points.

Eight tries confirmed the hosts' dominance, with Maroons half-back Johnathan Thurston adding nine goals.

The Blues, winners in 2014, have now lost nine of the past 10 series.

Much of the pre-match hype surrounded the aggression posed by the Blues pack but Queensland's veterans stood up to control the match, particularly Thurston, who was involved in almost everything along with omnipresent back-rower Corey Parker.

After half-backs Trent Hodkinson and Thurston had traded early penalty goals, the Maroons took hold of the game in front of a record, passionate crowd of more than 52,000.

Dane Gagai marked his debut with a try in the right corner and a bewildered Blues were dented further when Josh Papalii thundered through a gap to score from Thurston's soft pass, before full-back Greg Inglis finished off the half when he burst through alone to add a third try.

Queensland continued their momentum after the break when Justin Hodges, in his final Origin game, flicked back when the ball was set to go dead to give Matt Gillett a simple finish in goal.

Michael Morgan collected Aidan Guerra's inside pass to put the game beyond doubt and any lingering Blues hopes were comprehensively extinguished when Darius Boyd took a fizzing cut-out ball from Morgan to slide in at the corner.

Michael Jennings' breakaway effort was of little comfort for New South Wales, as Will Chambers crashed over for Queensland's seventh.

Not even a chalked-off Thurston score could spoil the Maroons' party, as Guerra dived over late on and Hodges capped off his representative career with the conversion.
