Former Wakefield Trinity Wildcats coach James Webster has been appointed the first head of the new Hull Academy.

Australian Webster, who left the Wildcats earlier this season, played for both Hull sides and spent time as assistant at Hull FC.

Hull FC and Hull KR announced they were to merge their academy sides for 2016 in July.

"It's a great challenge and one I'm extremely looking forward to," he told the club websites.

"I've had a tour around Bishop Burton College where the academy will be based and the facilities are outstanding.

"It is somewhere I was already familiar with having worked down there while I was at Hull FC but since then it has come on leaps and bounds. The hard work starts now."
