Australia beat Canada to reach the final, while New Zealand defeated England

Australia's women retained the Rugby League World Cup with a 23-16 victory over New Zealand in the final.

Isabelle Kelly scored twice for the Jillaroos, with Caitlin Moran and Elianna Walton adding further tries for the hosts in Brisbane on Saturday.

Honey Hireme had crossed twice for New Zealand, who trailed 12-10 at the break, before Raecene McGregor scored late in the second half.

But Moran added a drop goal to put the final beyond the Kiwis' reach.

It proved a perfect finale for Australia's co-captains Renae Kunst and Steph Hancock, who have retired following the tournament.

"To win a World Cup and to go out on your own terms is what players dream of," said Kunst.

"I was lucky enough to do that. I don't think you can top that."

Hancock added: "I'll have to come up with a new dream now. That one's done and dusted."

Australia completed a World Cup double, with the men's side beating England 6-0 in the final later in the day.
