  1. England win series v NZ after rain ruins third T20published at 10:35 BST

    That's your lot, folks.

A tad more than three and a half hours for 3.4 overs of cricket - but what a 3.4 overs they were.

England claim a series win as they continue to build towards the T20 World Cup in the New Year and now it is onto the one-day series.

Big names will return for that one and no doubt there will be more than a little bit of extra focus on those due to play in the Ashes.

Join us for the first ODI, which starts at 01:00 BST on Sunday!

  2. 'Beautiful balance to the side'published at 10:31 BST

More from England captain Harry Brook: "I think we have a beautiful balance to the side with depth to the batting. I feel we’re in a really good position."

On the ODI series: "They’ll be a few changes in the side, a few big names come back and hopefully we can keep that momentum going forward."

  3. 'Some good things to come out of the series'published at 10:28 BST

New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner: "This time of the year, it's always a potential but some good things to come out of the series, it's always nice to play England."

On what those good things were: "The way we bowled in the first game. The second game was good, we were put under a lot of pressure on a good wicket and you take learnings from that. Tonight we started well.

"We're trying to fine tune what we've got before the T20 World Cup."

  4. 'Weather hasn't been ideal'published at 10:26 BST

England captain Harry Brook: “Very frustrating. The weather hasn’t been ideal but good to get a little bit of game time out there.

“It’s a great place to tour, we’ve had a great time so far and we’re looking forward to the ODI series.

    “We’ve had an amazing time.”

What do you mean, Anon? It's a series win for the ages!

But yes, I had hoped the crossed out text would show up a little better to make that clear, tongue firmly in cheek.

10:08, “on the brink of a famous victory”! What’s famous about two matches rained off and a one-sided drubbing? Come on Sam, hope you had your tongue firmly in your cheek for this one.

Absolutely, seeing a few overs of out-and-out slogging might have been good fun.

But, in all honesty, neither side seemed overly keen given the condition of the outfield.

This is such a shame. I, for one, was very excited about seeing a genuinely extreme short form of the game.

  9. rain stops play

    Match abandonedpublished at 10:14 BST

It's official. Rain wins in Auckland and England win the series 1-0.

A real shame that the weather has played such a big part across the three matches given the entertainment we saw in the one completed game we did get.

With three ODIs to come, starting 01:00 BST on Sunday, we can only hope the weather in New Zealand improves quickly.

England are on the brink of a f̶a̶m̶o̶u̶s̶ T20 series victory as the big cover is put on.

Harry Brook is talking to the umpires as we speak, no doubt asking just how much longer it has to keep raining before that is confirmed.

  11. Postpublished at 10:03 BST

England are playing a bit of keepy-uppy while they wait.

They and the umpires aren't heading inside just yet but it doesn't look good.

Nobody seems particularly keen to get out there anymore and the two stumps with the microphones in them are being run off the field.

  12. Postpublished at 10:00 BST

Ah. That may become irrelevant because the rain has started to fall again.

    The covers are coming on.

That, I fear, may be that.

  13. Postpublished at 09:59 BST

No surprise that the crowd has dwindled somewhat since the start given the two rain delays.

But those who kept the faith will get to see some more cricket.

England are preparing to head back out there, Brydon Carse has two balls left then he'll be bowled out. Luke Wood is already bowled out.

Who will bowl the four remaining overs? Two each for Sam Curran and Adil Rashid? Or does Liam Dawson get one?

  14. Postpublished at 09:55 BST

New Zealand's total at the end of the their eight overs will be adjusted for DLS.

Given almost half of their innings will have been a powerplay, it may well be brought down.

England's powerplay will be 2.2 overs and it is now a maximum of two overs per bowler.

  15. Restart at 10:00 BSTpublished at 09:51 BST

We're getting some more cricket, folks!

Word has come through that play will resume, with New Zealand 18-1 from 3.4 overs, at 10:00 BST.

The match is reduced to eight-overs-a-side. Game on!

  16. Postpublished at 09:47 BST

    Good news.

The covers are off but the umpires, still under umbrellas, are chatting to the groundstaff.

We await further news but we may yet get some more cricket. I'd wager it all depends on the outfield.

  17. Postpublished at 09:42 BST

Quick update from Auckland and for a brief moment it seemed that the covers were coming off and more play might be on the cards.

Sadly, within seconds, the rain started again and the covers are back in place.

Think Harry Brook has something of a heroic racing driver about him in red. I like it!
