Wigan fought back from 16 points behind to beat visitors Widnes in their first home Super League game of the season.

Widnes took a commanding lead with Tom Gilmore adding two penalties to tries from Matt Whitley and Stefan Marsh.

But the hosts responded strongly as Joe Burgess went over before half-time, and Ryan Sutton's try reduced the deficit to six points after the break.

Tommy Leuluai crossed for Warriors before tries from Liam Farrell, Sam Tomkins and Tom Davies secured the win.

Widnes had been on course for their third victory in their past four games at the DW Stadium after a poor start from Wigan, with Marsh's try taking him to 250 Super League points for the club.

The visitors benefitted from a strong kicking game early on, with Whitley latching onto Gilmore's grubber and a Tomkins knock-on handing Gilmore an easy two points.

But Wigan dominated once they had got to grips with the conditions, as Shaun Wane's side claimed their third win in four games this season.

The result took the Warriors to second in the table, while the Vikings remain fourth after a third defeat in five games.
