Hull FC ran in seven tries as they survived a Widnes Vikings comeback at the Halton Stadium to move up to fifth in Super League.

Danny Washbrook crossed over early on to give Hull the lead before Bureta Faraimo extended their advantage.

Sam Wilde halved the deficit while Tom Olbison put Widnes into a two-point lead just after the break.

Masi Matongo, Josh Griffin, Fetuli Talanoa all touched down but Olbison's second try gave Widnes hope.

Not long after Washbrook's opening try, Widnes' injury bad luck continued as Chris Dean was forced off with a torn bicep.

Going into the game, Widnes had nine players out injured, including Keanan Brand and Krisnan Inu, who have both suffered broken legs in the past two weeks.

Their injury misery was compounded when Chris Houston left the field with a knee injury after being tackled by Mickey Paea and Chris Green, as he attempted to ground the ball for a try.

Despite having two players forced off through injury, Widnes broke back as they went into a 14-12 lead courtesy of Olbison's second-half try.

But Matongo, Griffin and Talanoa all crossed in the 10 minutes that followed as Hull took a 26-14 lead, with Marc Sneyd's drop goal providing some insurance for the visitors.

Olbison registered a second try as Widnes attempted to halt the flow of Hull FC but Griffin's second try and a Jamie Shaul score wrapped up a comfortable win for the visitors.
