Warrington survived a second-half Hull KR fightback to extend their winning run in Super League to six games.

Tries from Mike Cooper and Ben Currie, and two from Jack Hughes, put the Wolves 22-2 up at the break, with Ryan Shaw kicking the visitors' only points.

Maurice Blair, James Donaldson and Chris Atkin then scored three tries in quick succession to give Rovers hope.

But Tom Lineham, Stefan Ratchford and Ryan Atkins crossed to ensure victory before Danny McGuire went over late on.

Defeat for Rovers was their fourth in five games to leave them third from bottom.

While Shaw landed a penalty to give Tim Sheens' men an early lead, the visitors had already suffered a heavy blow when Shaun Lunt was forced off with a knee injury.

Wire came up with the game's first try off the back of five consecutive sets before Cooper eventually breached Rovers' resistance.

Hughes took a short pass from Kevin Brown to double Warrington's tally, and had his second effort awarded by the television match official just before the break after Currie touched down for their third.

Rovers rallied in stunning fashion after the break, reducing the margin to just two points following tries from Blair, Donaldson and Atkin.

With 14 minutes remaining Lineham spotted a gap to help settle Warrington nerves, before Ratchford and Atkins put the result beyond doubt.

Warrington coach Steve Price:

"That's what good teams do, find a way to get it done and we did that. I'm proud of the guys for managing to do that.

"I was disappointed with our start, especially with our intent and attitude of what we wanted to display. To come out in the second half and see them score some quick tries was disappointing.

"We didn't panic and stayed at it with our game plan and racked up 40 points.

"There's still a lot more in us though. We know where we need to get to and what we want to become."

Hull KR coach Tim Sheens:

"We got ourselves back into the game in the second half but the last 15 minutes of the first half was where the damage was done.

"Losing Shaun didn't help. We just didn't have enough troops as we were busted.

"Shaun has ruptured knee ligaments. Clinically, it's three months which is the initial diagnosis but he will go for a scan on Monday.

"Together with Danny McGuire he has made such a difference at the club and to the team with his general play, so it's a major blow for us."
