Josh Charnley has scored six tries in five Super League appearances for Warrington

A Josh Charnley hat-trick helped Warrington Wolves to a routine win over struggling Huddersfield.

The Wire took a 14-4 lead into the break thanks to scores from Josh Charnley, Stefan Ratchford and Tom Lineham, with Darnell McIntosh replying for the visitors.

Charnley completed his hat-trick with two tries in four minutes to move the game away from the visitors.

Ratchford got his second and Harvey Livett and Joe Philbin scored late on.

Charnley's treble means the former Wigan Warriors man has now scored seven tries in his past two appearances in all competitions, after scoring four in their Challenge Cup win over Bradford Bulls last week.

Huddersfield, who have won just twice all season, kept the hosts out for the first 22 minutes before Charnley took a Ryan Atkins pass before sprinting over.

McIntosh quickly reduced the deficit but that was as good as it got for the visitors, and caretaker coach Chris Thorman will have been concerned with how his side conceded five tries in 17 second-half minutes.

The Wolves visit Leeds Rhinos next Friday, while Huddersfield will be hoping to get back to winning ways when they host Widnes on the same night.

Injury blow for Currie

Warrington head coach Steve Price confirmed afterwards that England back-rower Ben Currie will miss the rest of the season after suffering an anterior cruciate knee ligament injury.

The 23-year-old fell awkwardly in last weekend's Challenge Cup win over the Bradford Bulls and will have surgery on Wednesday.

It is his second serious ACL injury after he suffered a similar problem in September 2016 which kept him out until July 2017.

"Tough to take this news," Currie posted on Twitter. "Rather get it sorted for good though than keep having little setbacks. Long journey ahead but I WILL be back!"

Price added: "He'll come back bigger and stronger; he has many good years left. He'll be looked after by our club. He's held in high regard.

"He's a quality person and we know he'll do everything he can to get back as quickly as he can but it's important he gets it right."

Huddersfield interim head coach Chris Thorman told BBC Radio Leeds:

"I quite enjoyed the first half, I thought were a little bit unfortunate to be 14-4 down at half-time.

"I don't think the seven to two penalty count helped, there some decisions that had me scratching my head again.

"Unfortunately when you have to make that many positional changes because of the injuries that we've picked up, it's disappointing, it's frustrating but it's hard to be critical of the players."
