Huddersfield survived a spirited second-half fightback to beat Wakefield for the second time in nine days.

Aaron Murphy, Adam O'Brien and Jake Mamo tries and a Danny Brough drop goal put Giants 19-6 up at the break, with Matty Ashurst crossing for Wakefield.

Ben Jones-Bishop went over for Trinity's second score moments after Giants' Kruise Leeming was sin-binned.

A further Jones-Bishop effort and late Reece Lyne try were not enough after Darnell McIntosh scored Giants' fourth.

Huddersfield's Magic Weekend win at St James' Park came a week after they knocked their West Yorkshire rivals out of the Challenge Cup - and was their third successive win in all competitions under the guidance of coach Chris Thorman, who remains at the helm while the club awaits the arrival of new boss Simon Woolford.

A break from Ukuma Ta'ai led to Murphy opening the scoring and desperate defending from Jermaine McGillvary ensured Wakefield did not come up with an immediate response, with Mason Caton-Brown forced into touch as he went to ground the ball.

O'Brien, who scored in Huddersfield's cup victory, then snuck over from dummy-half to double the advantage and Murphy linked up with Mamo to put them 18-0 ahead before Ashurst hit-back, collecting the ball after his grubber kick ricocheted back into his grasp.

After the break Trinity took immediate advantage of Leeming's sin-binning following a succession of penalties with Jones-Bishop going over in the corner, only for McIntosh to then dive over and restore their 13-point advantage three minutes later.

But again Jones-Bishop hit-back, taking a fine offload from Pauli Pauli to score his second, and Lyne set up a tense finish by crossing seven minutes from the end - but Giants held on for just their fourth Super League win of the season.
