Three first-half tries helped Wakefield Trinity to victory against Super League strugglers Widnes Vikings at the Select Security Stadium.
Stefan Marsh's penalty gave the hosts the lead but tries from Pauli Pauli, Tom Johnstone and David Fifita put Trinity in control.
Patrick Ah Van touched down for Widnes to cut the deficit to 10 points.
In a second half of few chances for either side, Jacob Miller kicked a late drop goal to seal Wakefield's win.
The defeat leaves Widnes rooted to the bottom of the Super League table after Hull Kingston Rovers pulled off a shock win against Wigan Warriors.
Denis Betts' side have lost 12 of their 15 Super League games this season and a top-eight finish before the split now looks very unlikely.
Wakefield's own top-eight chances received a boost with the victory, as they moved three points clear of eighth-placed Huddersfield with a game in hand.
